How to Become a Registered Course Provider

- Service Notice – Beginning July 1, 2025, to become a course provider, applicants must submit an application and pay a registration fee.
How to Become a Course Provider:
Applicant:
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age and have a valid photo ID (Driver’s License, NYS Non-Driver’s ID, current passport, or Green Card).
- Be able to read and write in English.
- Maintain a good moral character to ensure fitness for duties and responsibilities.
- Pass a background check
Organization:
- Maintains compliance with RCNY 105-03 and 104-06, Local Law 196 of 2017, and Local Law 219 of 2019, if applicable.
- Maintains and provides, when asked, the required documentation to verify the experience requirements for the type of provider category listed below.

- The applicant has two (2) options for submission
- By mail:
- Mail the completed CPA-1 form, supporting documentation, and payment via check or money order made payable to “NYC Department of Buildings” to: Attn: Course Provider Program, NYC Department of Buildings, 280 Broadway, 6th Floor, New York, NY,10007.
- In-person:
- Drop-off on Tuesday or Wednesday only, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
- The completed CPA-1 form, supporting documents, and payment via check or money order made payable to “NYC Department of Buildings” can be dropped off at 280 Broadway, 6th Floor reception, New York, NY,10007, OR
- Applicants can pay in person with a credit card, check, or money order made payable to “NYC Department of Buildings” at 280 Broadway, 1st Floor Atrium, New York, NY,10007. After the payment is made, the applicant must drop off the complete CPA-1 form, supporting documents, and a receipt of payment at 280 Broadway, 6th Floor reception, New York, NY,10007.

**Please note, that both the registration fee and the credit card convenience fee are non-refundable.
STEP 3:
- Once the application and the payment are submitted, the application will be processed.
- Department of Buildings (DOB) will issue an approval or denial letter via email once the payment has been received and the application and background reviews have been completed.
How to update information
- Course providers must submit a new notarized Course Provider Application (CPA-1) form with updated information and an appropriate attachment pertaining to the change. The “Information Update” box must be selected on the application.
- The subject line of the email must include the Course Provider’s ID Number (CPXXX) and the words “Information Update”.
How to request approval for new courses
- Course providers must submit a new notarized Course Provider Application (CPA-1) form. The “Course Addition” box must be selected on the application.
- The subject line of the email should include the Course Provider’s ID Number (CPXXX) and the words “Course Addition”.
- Course providers must wait for Department approval before conducting new courses.
Please be advised that any incomplete application will be rejected by the Department.
