Mayor de Blasio Applauds New York City Council for Passing Legislation to Reduce NYC's Speed Limit to 25 MPH

"There is no question this will save lives. Speeding on our streets is taking the lives of our children and our neighbors. Lowering the citywide speed limit is a powerful new tool we can combine with education, enforcement and better-designed streets. As both Mayor and as a parent, I am deeply grateful to the City Council for its advocacy in Albany to secure this change, and today's action to cement it into law. Speaker Mark-Viverito, Transportation Chair Rodriguez and Council Member Greenfield have been powerful allies as we work to make Vision Zero a reality. We thank them, Governor Cuomo and the State Legislature for uniting behind this vital safety initiative."
