Yolanda Vásquez: Y es que reinaba la tensión la semana pasada en torno a la campaña del alcalde Eric Adams, pero hoy un poco más relajado despejó todas las dudas. Miren esa entrevista.
La junta de elecciones tiene que finalizar la boleta antes del 11 de septiembre y para ese día ya tiene que estar terminada para las fotografías. ¿Existe alguna posibilidad de que usted reconsidere renunciar o de suspender su campaña antes de esa fecha?
Translation: Tensions reigned last week around Mayor Eric Adams' campaign, but today he was a little more relaxed and cleared up all doubts. Look at the interview.
The Board of Elections has to finalize the ballot before September 11 and by that day it has to be finished for photographs. Is there any chance you might reconsider resigning or suspending your campaign before then?
Mayor Eric Adams: Nada.
Translation: Nope.
Vásquez: ¿Por qué? Why?
Mayor Adams: Porque es muy importante que transmitamos el mensaje correcto sobre cuál es el proceso y quiero animar a los votantes a escuchar a todos los candidatos. Espero con interés el debate en cualquier momento.
Translation: Because it's very important that we get the right message out there about what the process is, and I want to encourage voters to listen to all the candidates. I am looking forward to the debate.
Vásquez: Mucho más tranquilo que la semana anterior y consciente de los retos que implica continuar en la contienda, hoy el alcalde Eric Adams aseguró que su búsqueda por la reelección no la cambia nada ni nadie y pide a los votantes que se tomen el tiempo para escucharlo.
Translation: Much calmer than the previous week and aware of the challenges of continuing in the race, today Mayor Eric Adams assured us that his quest for re-election is not changed by anything or anyone and asks voters to take the time to listen to him.
Mayor Adams: Dejen que el proceso siga su curso y denme una oportunidad como la que otros han tenido. Ahora es mi momento de usar el dinero de mi campaña para difundir mi mensaje.
Estoy muy concentrado y decidido. Ser alcalde es lo que he querido hacer probablemente durante la mayor parte de mi vida adulta. Y, me dije, si me dan la oportunidad puedo mejorar la vida de los neoyorquinos.
Translation: Let the process run its course and give me an opportunity like others have had. Now is my time to use my campaign money to spread my message.
I am very focused and determined. Being mayor is what I've wanted to do for the majority of my adult life. And, I told myself, if given the opportunity, I can improve the lives of New Yorkers.
Vásquez: Algunos líderes de la ciudad dicen que usted, después de septiembre 11, perdería vigencia y que debería renunciar o retirarse de la campaña y que debería aceptar la oferta del presidente Trump. ¿Qué le responde usted a esta gente?
Translation: Some city leaders say that after 9/11 you would be out of time and that you should resign or withdraw from the campaign. And that you should accept President Trump's offer. What do you want to say to these people?
Mayor Adams: No hay nada de eso. O sea, todo el mundo habla de eso, pero no me ofrecieron ir a ningún lado. Lo que debo hacer es mantenerme concentrado y no distraerme.
Translation: There is no offer. I mean, everyone talks about it, but they didn't offer me to go anywhere. What I need to do is stay focused and not get distracted.
Vásquez: El alcalde dijo de manera contundente que no ha hablado con el presidente Trump al tiempo que señaló a uno de sus rivales de estar interesado en recibir apoyo del mandatario.
Translation: The mayor insisted that he has not spoken with President Trump while also implying that one of his rivals is interested in receiving support from the president.
Mayor Adams: Luego Andrew, en público, dice que no quiere tener nada que ver con el presidente, pero en privado le dice a la gente que espera que el presidente lo ayude. Esa es una incoherencia. Por eso dije que es un mentiroso y una serpiente.
Translation: Andrew, in public, says he wants nothing to do with the president, but privately he tells people that he hopes the president will help him. That is an inconsistency. That's why I said he is a liar and a snake.
Vásquez: Y lo que dice el alcalde Eric Adams es que está listo para salir nuevamente a cada rincón de la ciudad de Nueva York para seguir contándole a la gente lo que está haciendo y lo que hará por esta ciudad.
Translation: And what Mayor Eric Adams is saying is that he's ready to go out into every corner of New York City to tell people what he's doing and what he's going to do for this city.
