Internships and Seasonal Opportunities

As home to some of the most talented professionals and dynamic companies, our city is a terrific place to gain the experience and expertise you will need to succeed. Each year, various City agencies offer a wide range of internships, fellowships, and seasonal employment opportunities to recent college graduates and high school, college, and graduate students. These programs give participants an introduction to working in the public sector, providing valuable leadership skills and the chance to develop hands-on experience.

Year-Long Programs

Urban Fellows Program
This highly selective program places recent college graduates in positions across City government where they gain hands-on experience and meaningful opportunities in policy, planning and operations. Fellows will also participate in a series of in-depth seminars that explore current urban issues, as well as the relationships between the city, state, and federal governments. The Fellows are also involved in a series of service initiatives designed to broaden their participation in City government.

NYC Service Fellowship
Recent college graduates interested in making a difference in the New York City community will gain experience coordinating and facilitating citywide volunteerism and community service efforts through a year-long fellowship at NYC Service. By helping to advance the Office’s mission to make New York the easiest place in the world to volunteer and developing programs that address areas of greatest need, Fellows will not only acquire invaluable professional skills, but will see real results as they improve quality of life for those throughout the five boroughs.

NYC Civic Corps
The NYC Civic Corps, an AmeriCorps program run by NYC Service, unites a diverse group of recent graduates and experienced professionals. Small teams of NYC Civic Corps members are assigned full-time to non-profit organizations and City agencies for 10 months of service and charged with recruiting, engaging and managing volunteers and volunteer programs.

NYC Parks Fellowship & Conservation Corps Program
NYC Parks and The NYC Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking motivated and energetic applicants to become the next generation of leaders dedicated to public service and to protecting and enhancing New York City’s parks and natural resources. The NYC Parks Fellowship and Conservation Corps Program is a paid 40-week public service commitment that features professional placements within a diverse and dynamic city agency. Participants are assigned to divisions throughout the agency to work on substantive, long-term projects. Fellows also participate in regularly-scheduled professional development seminars and ongoing service projects that support Parks priorities, such as restoration of natural areas and community outreach activities.

Summer and Other Seasonal Programs

Public Service Corps (PSC)
In today’s competitive job market, a demonstrated record of achievement both in and out of the classroom can give graduates the edge they need to jumpstart their careers. As the largest off-campus internship program in the country, the Public Service Corps (PSC) offers students the opportunity to begin building a strong foundation for professional success. With positions available at hospitals, government offices, schools, and much more, program participants will have the chance to serve their communities, build professional skills, and explore career options in the public sector. This program is open to undergraduate and graduate students eligible for the Federal Work-Study Program or for academic credit internships during the summer, academic terms or the full academic year.

Citywide Summer Internship Program
Each year, hundreds of summer internships are offered to talented graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in careers in public service. Through positions in a variety of City agencies, interns will gain an in-depth understanding of how City government works, while also developing professional skills and participating in a seminar series presented by City leaders.

Percent for Art Internship Program
Students interested in contemporary art can intern with the Percent for Art Program, which works to make art accessible for all New Yorkers. Program interns help to maintain image registries and assist with the artist selection process.

Ranger Conservation Corps
The Ranger Conservation Corps (RCC) is an urban environmental internship program for high school students. RCC participants assist park rangers with environmental restoration in Forever Wild sites located in New York’s flagship parks.

Summer Honors Program at the NYC Law Department
The City’s Law Department offers first- and second-year law students the opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience through its summer internship program.

Parks Department Lifeguarding Positions
Help keep New Yorkers safe by becoming a Parks Department lifeguard.

Summer School Instructional Program
Teachers, guidance counselors, lab specialists, administrative professionals, and social workers can apply for positions with the Department of Education’s Summer School Instructional Program.

Election Day Employment Opportunities
