FIREFIGHTER APPLICANTS: Congratulations, you are one step closer to joining New York's Bravest!

We are pleased to announce that we are continuing to process Promotional Exam #2500 candidates and have begun to process candidates from the Open Competitive Exam #2000. We expect to hire 600 firefighters per year over the next four years, drawing first from the Promotional Exam List and then the Open Competitive List.

They respond to more than 1.3 million emergencies each year - that's more than three calls a minute! They are on call to save lives - 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Follow all the instructions on the Notice of Examination. Make sure to complete the Education & Experience Test Paper, and the Foreign Education Fact Sheet (if applicable).

Properly completed application forms can be submitted by using two options:

  1. Online at the DCAS WEBSITE: Go to the Online Application System (OASys) at www.nyc.gov/examsforjobs and follow the onscreen instructions for electronically submitting your application and completing any required forms.
  2. In person: You may come to the DCAS Computerized Testing Centers to file for this examination online, submit a money order, or obtain a paper application for this examination.

The centers will have hours Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM through 5:00 PM:

Fire Alarm Dispatchers are a part of the most highly-trained Fire and emergency medical service in the world. They are on call to save lives - 24 hours a day, seven days a week as they  relocate companies as needed; adjust the number and/or type of units at fire scenes based on the condition and/or predetermined response assignment protocols; operate department radio and voice alarm systems to announce alarms.

Fire Protection Inspectors are a part of the most highly-trained Fire and emergency medical service in the world. They conduct inspections which are intended to reduce or eliminate fire hazards or assist in extinguishing fires.
