FIREFIGHTER APPLICANTS: Congratulations on filing to take the upcoming Firefighter Examination. You are one step closer to joining New York's Bravest.

You should your Admission Notice be received by January 27, 2012. Your Admissions Card will provide you with the date, time, and location you are scheduled to take the exam. It will also include information about the computer-based tutorial program.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE UPCOMING FIREFIGHTER EXAM:

TEST DATES: Administration of the computer-based test will begin in late February 2012 or March 2012. You should receive and Admission Notice in the mail by January 27, 2012 assigning you to a test date and time at a testing center in the New York City area. Subject to availability of open dates and locations, you will be able to reschedule your test date to another date within the testing period and/or to select a different testing center after you receive your Admission Notice. Instructions for rescheduling your test date, time or location will be included in the Admission Notice.

The computer-based test (CBT) is designed to assess important abilities and aptitudes that are required to successfully learn and perform the work of an FDNY Firefighter. The test will evaluate basic abilities, such as Reading, Listening, Problem Solving, Basic Arithmetic and related areas. It also will assess the way candidates approach work, interact with others, and concentrate on details.

Follow all the instructions on the Notice of Examination. Make sure to complete the Education & Experience Test Paper, and the Foreign Education Fact Sheet (if applicable).

Properly completed application forms can be submitted by using two options:

  1. Online at the DCAS WEBSITE: Go to the Online Application System (OASys) ay www.nyc.gov/examsforjobs and follow the onscreen instructions for electronically submitting your application and completing any required forms.
  2. In person: You may come to the DCAS Computerized Testing Centers to file for this examination online, submit a money order, or obtain a paper application for this examination.
