New York, NY ― Bellevue Hospital Center, part of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), today announced that Danielle Elleman, LCSW, received the Lydia Martinez Multidisciplinary Collaboration Award for her work helping victims and fighting sexual violence.

Elleman has been a member of Bellevue’s Victim Services Program for more than seven years and as part of the program is co-leader and facilitator of the Project Envision Coalition, working with other hospitals, community groups and individuals to prevent sexual violence. In this role, Elleman spearheaded the “I Have A Right” campaign, an anti-violence initiative with the goal of changing the way society views sexual and gender violence by working with victims and their families to eradicate the stigma of shame. She provides short- and long-term therapy for all victims of crime.

The New York City Alliance Against Sexual Assault honored Elleman with the award named for Detective Lydia Martinez, who worked tirelessly to help sexual assault victims in New York City. Elleman was among several award recipients honored at an event on Friday, March 14th at the Battery Gardens Restaurant in Manhattan.

“There is no greater honor than to be recognized by those who inspire you. I share this honor with the memory of Detective Lydia Martinez who will forever be remembered as a passionate professional who worked to help sexual assault victims get justice,” Elleman said.

Also this month the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) celebrates these professionals with the theme “All People Matter.”

“Danielle Elleman is a dynamic leader in the field of Social Work dedicated to raising awareness and prevention of sexual violence among Bellevue’s diverse patient population and the larger community, ” said Steven R. Alexander, Executive Director of Bellevue Hospital Center. “We thank her for her service and congratulate her on receiving this important award.”

A Cum Laude graduate of Wichita State University, Danielle completed a Master of Science in Social Work and joined the Peace Corps in 2001. Her new endeavor took her to Romania and Uzbekistan where she discovered her passion for working with those whose lives have been affected by interpersonal violence. She attended Columbia University’s Graduate School of Social Work from 2004 to 2006. While at Columbia, and as a student intern at North Central Bronx Hospital, she conducted psychosocial assessments of non-admitted patients in the emergency department.
