The Parks Opportunity Program (POP) provides paid work and access to certifications, education, and career coaching.

Overview

This six-month training program offers professional skills development and career coaching while providing paid on-the-job experience. A POP worker performs general maintenance work, under direct and close supervision while working in teams. Typical tasks may include:

  • Use of hand and powered landscaping equipment such as lawn mowers, weed whackers and other equipment
  • Litter and debris collection, digging pits and ditches, and removing snow and ice
  • Cleaning interior and exterior of buildings, facilities, and restrooms
  • Providing customer service, general information, and directions to visitors



Eligibility

  • Applicants should be comfortable participating in the following:
    • Standing and walking for long periods of time, in all-weather outdoors
    • Ability to lift, with or without assistance, 10 lbs. (4.54 kg) or more
    • Comfortable handling mowers and other equipment
    • Be available to work one (1) weekend day
    • Providing customer service
  • If offered the position in the program, all applicants must pay a finger printing fee of $102.50.
  • If you were hired as a POP Worker within the past 6 months, you must wait at least 6 months to be considered for the position again.

What is the schedule?

This six-month program begins with orientation and on-the-job training. This program follows a 40-hour workweek and includes career coaching and training services.

What language services are available?

All participants must be able to understand and be understood in English, in order to follow directions and interact with the public as needed.
