First Course NYC by Department of Small Business Services (SBS)


First Course NYC is an apprenticeship program that teaches the culinary skills needed for a career as a restaurant cook.

Overview

First Course NYC trains participants to become restaurant cooks. Participants train full-time for eight weeks. Qualified trainees will advance into paid, full-time work and continued training in a restaurant kitchen. Employees who demonstrate commitment and strong work ethic will be retained as permanent employees.


Eligibility

You should meet these minimum requirements:

· Committed to starting a career as a restaurant cook

· Aged 18 or older

· New York City resident

· Authorized to work in the United States · Registered for Selective Service (if applicable)

· Make no more than $50,000 every year
