Marco A. Carrión is President of the Consortium for Worker Education (CWE), the workforce development arm of the New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. Founded in 1985, CWE supports education and industry-specific training for workers across New York City’s five boroughs.
As President, Marco oversees CWE’s extensive funding and partnership network, which provides critical financial support to dozens of community-based organizations and local unions citywide. This work sustains a broad ecosystem of specialized training and worker advocacy that strengthens New York’s working class. Under his leadership, CWE continues its mission to prepare workers for the rapid economic and technological changes shaping the future of work.
Prior to joining CWE in February 2025, Marco served as Executive Director of El Puente, a youth-centered human rights organization advancing racial and environmental justice in Brooklyn and Puerto Rico. His public service career also includes seven years as Commissioner of New York City’s Community Affairs Unit, where he served as a key liaison between the Mayor’s Office and the city’s diverse neighborhoods.
Marco’s roots in the labor movement began at the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) and the AFL-CIO. He later served as Political and Legislative Director of the New York City Central Labor Council, representing 1.3 million members across more than 300 local unions. His experience also includes senior roles with two New York State Governors and service as Chief of Staff to the New York State Senate Health Committee Chair.
A native of the Bronx, Marco was raised in the Soundview neighborhood and currently resides in Brooklyn.
