CITY PLANNING UNVEILS GEOGRAPHIC ONLINE ADDRESS TRANSLATOR

Tool Provides Geographic Information for the Public and Critical City Services Like 311

March 17, 2014 – The Department of City Planning (DCP) today released the Geographic Online Address Translator (GOAT), a new web application that enables users to quickly and easily acquire a trove of useful location-specific information.  GOAT allows one to enter a New York City geographic location, like an address or an intersection, and in return receive related data such as cross streets, census tract, police precinct, sanitation pickup, community district, and city council district as well as even more granular information. It also links to other city agency resources about a particular property including DCP’s Zoning and Land Use Application known as ZoLa, the Department of Finance’s (DOF) Digital Tax Map and Property Records, and the Department of Building’s (DOB) building profiles and violations.  GOAT also will be accessible from the DCP web page, nyc.gov/planning.

GOAT will consolidate and expand the functionality of two older applications, and will replace outdated technology with a DCP-created utility that will be quickly and easily updated to include new features of DCP’s Geosupport System as they are developed.

GOAT has been used throughout city government, most heavily by 311, the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) and DOB. It will now be a resource for community boards, elected officials, researchers and the public at large.
