HOW WE CREATED GENERATION NYC
Generation NYC was created in collaboration with over 100 NYC teens and young adults and numerous City agencies and community partners.
We began with exploratory research to understand what issues our City’s youth faced, what resources they currently use, and where they felt they could use additional resources. We then worked with our City and community partners to see what resources are available to address the needs identified through our research, and we developed and designed prototypes to test with youth. Our partners at Blue State Digital provided design and website development services.
We did multiple rounds of prototype validation testing with youth, as well as our partners, to make sure Generation NYC would be a useful product for youth to find information and for our partners to have a platform to communicate the rich resources available to NYC residents. We continue to test with NYC youth to improve Generation NYC.
TECHNOLOGY POWERING GENERATION NYC
Generation NYC is a microsite, built on the framework of Growing Up NYC and developed on WordPress, an open-source content management system, and hosted on WP Engine. The two sites share the same code base and plugins, as well as some event and program content.
Through our integration with Twilio Programmable SMS, users are able to text site pages to mobile phones to access later.
