Inmate Notification Services

Victim Information and Notification Everyday (V.I.N.E.)

V.I.N.E. is a 24-hour service that provides victims with automated notifications of the release dates and status of inmates who are in the custody of the New York City Department of Correction or New York State Department of Corrections jail and prison systems.

To receive these notifications, you must sign up by calling 888-846-3469 (TDD 866-847-1298) or by visiting the V.I.N.E. website.

When signing up with V.I.N.E., you should indicate whether you prefer to receive notifications by text, phone call, and/or email.

Victim Notification System (VNS)

If you are the victim of a federal crime, usually, you will be automatically entered into the Victim Notification System (VNS) maintained by the Department of Justice. Your first notification will be by mail, providing you with a special PIN and victim ID number. Once you have received your PIN and ID number, you can either call the VNS Call Center at 866-365-4968 to find information about an inmate (you must know your PIN) or visit the VNS website to sign up and receive notifications by email.

VNS will notify you when the offender is incarcerated, his/her release date, if he/she escapes, if he/she is granted furlough, if he/she is transferred to a residential reentry center, if he/she has an upcoming parole hearing, or if he/she dies.

If you were not automatically entered into the VNS, and wish to be entered, contact the US Attorney's Office in the area where the offender was prosecuted. Find a complete list of US Attorney's Offices.

NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) Inmate Population Information Search

DOCCS provides information on the status and location of inmates and former inmates incarcerated in a DOCCS prison, except youthful offenders, those who have had their convictions set aside by a court, and certain previously incarcerated non-violent offenders who are covered by a special provision codified in Correction Law §9, which is explained in the DOCCS website.
