Section 8 Moving

This page applies to the move process for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program (also known as Section 8). As an HPD Section 8 program participant, you may request to move with your housing subsidy once every twelve months, after completing the initial term of your lease. You must follow the move process as explained in the briefing video below. This includes getting a move voucher before moving or risk losing your subsidy. Once approved by HPD, you may move within the five boroughs of New York City. You may also request to "port" anywhere in the United States where a Section 8 program is run.
