Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro presided today over a plaque dedication ceremony to honor Lieutenant Brian J. Sullivan at the Quarters of Squad Company 41, 330 East 150th Street in the Bronx. Due to COVID-19 health and safety guidelines, the ceremony was closed to the public and attended only by family members of Lt. Sullivan and members of the Department.

A 27-year-veteran of the FDNY, Lieutenant Sullivan died at 12:10 a.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2019 after leading the members of Squad Company 41 for a 24-hour period of his final tour from August 8th to August 9th. That final tour, he responded to seven emergencies which included several medical calls, and a fire at 255 East 138th Street at 6:01 p.m., Thursday, August 8th — the third he had responded to in three days. Throughout his tour Lieutenant Sullivan had complained of pain and discomfort to his fellow Firefighters but continued responding to calls. At the conclusion of his tour, he returned home. Later that evening he was rushed to Orange County Regional Medical Center in cardiac arrest, where he died.
Lieutenant Sullivan is the 1,153rd member of the FDNY to die as a result of injuries sustained in the line-of-duty.
