October 14, 2016

FDNY hosted the 15th Annual Blessing of its Marine Fleet on Friday, October 14, at noon at South Street Seaport – Pier 16, Manhattan.  This maritime tradition is meant to ensure safe travels and will include a procession of fireboats along the East River led by Fireboat Three Forty Three of Marine Company 1, – FDNY’s largest fireboat, followed by a blue and red water display.

“FDNY Marine operations utilizes a state-of-the-art fleet of fast, powerful and agile fireboats to cover more than 560 miles of waterfront surrounding the City of New York,” said Commissioner Nigro. “Our members are extensively trained in special marine operations, ranging from firefighting and medical response to scuba-diving and rapid response missions, all of which ensures the safety of millions of New Yorkers.”

The FDNY Marine operation encompasses over 20 vessels.

The weekend will feature a wide range of activities for the public, including rescue demonstrations and tours of FDNY engines, ladders, and ambulances.
