FDNY Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore Promotes 81 Members at Ceremony on Staten Island

The FDNY held a promotion ceremony for 81 members of Fire Operations on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Facility on Staten Island.

Members were promoted to the ranks of Deputy Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Battalion Chief, Captain, Lieutenant, Supervising Fire Marshal, Fire Marshal and Marine Engineer.

Among those promoted was Deputy Chief Michele Fitzsimmons, Chief of the Fire Academy, who was promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief. In 2025, Chief Fitzsimmons became the first female member of Fire Operations to reach the rank of Deputy Chief. She is currently the highest-ranking female uniformed member in Fire Operations.

The promotions included three Deputy Chiefs to Deputy Assistant Chief, four Battalion Chiefs to Deputy Chief, 10 Captains to Battalion Chief, 10 Lieutenants to Captain, one Fire Marshal to Supervising Fire Marshal, 48 Firefighters to Lieutenant, three Firefighters to Fire Marshal and two Firefighters to Marine Engineer.

The newly promoted members will be assigned to units throughout New York City.
