May 17, 2026

The FDNY hosted the 2026 FDNY EMS Week Competition on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the EMS Academy at Fort Totten in Queens. The event takes place annually to help celebrate National EMS Week. The competition is an opportunity for FDNY EMTs and paramedics to display their emergency medical service skills.

For the Basic Life Support (BLS) category, first place went to Division 7 in the Bronx: EMTs Enrique Rijos Jr., Ryan Onuma, James Gallageher Jr., and Gerardo Ramos Jr.

For Advanced Life Support (ALS) category, first place went to Division 8 in Brooklyn: Paramedics Shewain George, Andries Mustafa, and Vincent Rebolledo.

Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore said the competition helps shine a spotlight on scenario-based training. She offered praise to everyone who took part in the challenging event.

"This is a fun day to play games and really show off your skill set. You're competing with the world’s best here," Commissioner Bonsignore said. "So many people depend on the abilities of FDNY EMS."

With support from the FDNY Foundation, the official nonprofit organization of the Department, the 2026 FDNY EMS Week Competition was streamed in its entirety.
