On June 4, 2025, the Fire Department, City of New York's Medal Board proudly released the 156th FDNY Medal Day Book at the Department's annual Medal Day Ceremony at City Hall, a time-honored publication that dates back to 1869.
As it does every year, the book provided a detailed account of the actions of FDNY medal recipients and honored their service to the residents and visitors of New York City.
"Our members are dedicated to their training and consistently prove they will do whatever is necessary to save lives. This is the gift of the FDNY: members who just won’t quit, who will pull out all the stops to do their jobs—and then some. They show courage, compassion and commitment. For this, we are grateful, and we thank you for your service. Congratulations on these amazing awards! This work is truly remarkable," FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said.
"The firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and officers recognized in this book represent the very best of the FDNY. Their stories are reminders of the dedication to duty that defines this department," Chief of Department John Esposito said.
The front cover of the 76-page Medal Day Book featured an image from a 2-alarm fire on Feb. 23, 2024, at Manhattan Box 1647. A total of six individual medals were awarded for rescues at this incident.
Publication of the FDNY Medal Day Book was made possible by the FDNY Foundation. The FDNY also thanks the Honorary Fire Officers Association for its contribution to create this publication.
The 2025 Medal Board consisted of Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker, Chief of Department John Esposito, Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods and Chief of EMS Operations Michael Fields.
