FDNY reminds New Yorkers of important safety tips for Lunar New Year celebrations

February 17, 2026

In a new Public Service Announcement (PSA), the FDNY reminds New Yorkers of important safety tips for celebrating the Lunar New Year.

  • Fireworks, including sparklers, are dangerous and illegal in New York City. Consider using paper confetti poppers.
  • Use battery-powered candles in lanterns and decorations as a safe alternative.
  • Always have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

The Department's PSA program is made possible in part with support from the FDNY Foundation, the official nonprofit organization of the Department.
