The FDNY's latest class of fire protection inspectors graduate at ceremony in Brooklyn

The FDNY welcomed its latest class of fire protection inspectors to its ranks at a graduation ceremony on Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, at Department Headquarters in Brooklyn.

"Today is a great day. You have worked tirelessly to earn your place in the Bureau of Fire Prevention, and you should be very proud," FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said. "The mission of the FDNY is not possible without you, because fire prevention is where safety begins. It's the work that happens before the tones go off, before the first engines roll out, and before lives are at risk. In New York City, the landscape is constantly changing. New buildings rise, new technologies emerge and, with them, new threats. As fire protection inspectors, you're on the front lines of identifying and addressing those risks—protecting New Yorkers and first responders. Your inspections ensure that our city remains safe for millions of people who live, work and visit here every day."

Chief of Fire Prevention Thomas Currao said: "You have only begun on the greatest journey of your life and career in the FDNY and in the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Please think of yourselves as life safety professionals, because that's what you truly represent. The Bureau of Fire Prevention plays a pivotal role in the FDNY's mission because preventing a tragedy from occurring is the very best way to deliver on our commitment to protect life and property. Your work isn't easy, but it's important."

The FDNY's Bureau of Fire Prevention is tasked with preventing fire conditions by enforcing the Fire Code and inspecting buildings, small businesses, schools and construction sites. Inspectors are the first line of defense in preventing fires across the five boroughs. The newly graduated inspectors will be assigned to units throughout New York City.
