The FDNY Bravest Boxing team will take on the NYPD Fighting Finest Boxing team at The Battle of the Badges on Saturday November 22 at 8 p.m. at Madison Square Garden. The night will feature 12 three-round matches between FDNY members and NYPD members, with New York City bragging rights on the line. The 32-year battle is all tied up, with 15 victories for each team, and one draw.
Continuing the FDNY Boxing team’s tradition of donating the proceeds from their events to assist returning
veterans who suffered debilitating injuries in combat – this year, the team is raising money for United States Army Corporal Jesse Murphee. Corporal Murphee lost both his legs above the knee and suffered a traumatic brain injury when his Humvee was blown up by an anti-tank mine in Afghanistan in 2007. Funds raised will go to support the construction of a new, mortgage-free, handicap-accessible home for Corporal Murphee and his family. Corporal Murphee joined the Army in 2005 to honor his family from New York City, who were affected by the terrorist attacks on September 11th.
In a show of support and gratitude to the brave members of the United States armed forces, 1,000 free tickets will be given away to active members who show their military IDs at the box office.
The FDNY Boxing team competes in several amateur boxing matches each year against Fire and Police Departments from around the world. In the past several years, the FDNY Bravest Boxing team has donated more than $60,000 to military related charities.
