FDNY Holds Line of Duty Death Plaque Dedication Ceremony for Supervising Fire Marshal George E. Snyder Jr.

Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker will preside over a plaque dedication ceremony to honor Supervising Fire Marshal George E. Snyder Jr. on Friday, August 8th, at 11 a.m. at the FDNY EMS Academy, Building 319, on Fort Totten. The ceremony can be viewed live on the Department's website at www.nyc.gov/FDNY or HERE.

Supervising Fire Marshal Snyder, 53, of Yonkers, suffered a cardiac episode after working on Friday, August 9, 2024 and died Saturday, August 10, 2024. Snyder was appointed to the FDNY in May of 2002. After graduating from the Fire Academy, he was assigned Engine 36 in Harlem and then transferred to Engine 47 in Morningside Heights. SFM Snyder became a fire marshal in 2009 and was promoted to Supervising Fire Marshal in 2019. He was assigned to the Special Operations Command, where he headed up the Lithium-Ion Battery Task Force. His work there included investigating lithium-ion battery fires and partnering with other agencies in enforcement. SFM Snyder was cited five times for meritorious acts throughout his 22-year career.

SFM Snyder is the 1,161st member of the FDNY to die in the line-of-duty.
