Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro will dedicate a memorial plaque honoring eight New York City Firefighters on the 82nd anniversary of their death. The ceremony will take place at the site of the explosions, Ritz Tower Building, located at 465 Park Avenue in Manhattan on Friday, August 1st, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
Lieutenant John Cosgrove and Firefighters Thomas Finn and James Green of Engine Company 65; Lieutenant James Harnett and Firefighter Louis Hardina of Ladder Company 16; Firefighters Peter Daly and Edward Maloney of Engine Company 39; and Firefighter William Pratt of Ladder Company 7, were killed in explosions while fighting a fire at the Ritz Tower Building on the morning of August 1, 1932.
The New York State Honorary Fire Chiefs Association has graciously funded the new plaque, which lists the names of the members killed in the line of duty, as well as the inscription;
