The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore will preside over a graduation and promotion ceremony for Probationary Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, and EMS Officers on Thursday, August 13th at 10 a.m. at Queens College - Colden Auditorium. The ceremony can be viewed live on the Department’s website at www.nyc.gov/FDNY or HERE.
This will be the last class of Probationary EMTs to graduate before the 25th Anniversary of September 11.
A total of 124 Probationary EMTs will graduate from the EMS Academy, 58 Emergency Medical Technicians will be promoted to Paramedic, and two Paramedics will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. The newly graduated and promoted members will be assigned to units throughout New York City.
The Probationary EMTs completed training including CPR, patient medical and trauma assessments; oxygen and ventilation skills; management of hypotension and fractures; spinal immobilization; emergency childbirth; and emergency vehicle operation. The newly promoted Paramedics completed extensive training through the FDNY Paramedic Basic Program, including classroom instruction at the EMS Academy, clinical internships at hospitals, and field rotations.
