The FDNY, in collaboration with the New York City Department of Small Business Services' Office of Nightlife, released a new Public Service Announcement (PSA) on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, reminding New Yorkers that lighting fires inside public spaces is dangerous and illegal.

    Lighting fires inside public spaces is dangerous and illegal. It is illegal to buy, sell, use or transport sparklers and fireworks in New York City. They should NEVER be used inside.

    Cold weather brings an increased risk of fires and other emergencies. The FDNY reminds New Yorkers to use space heaters safely and to always keep fire hydrants clear of snow and ice.
