Get Alarmed

The Get Alarmed NYC program helps save lives by installing free smoke alarms in homes and providing education about home fire safety to residents in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. The risk of dying in a house fire is cut by about 60% when working smoke alarms are present, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

Starting in August 2025, in partnership with the American Red Cross, the FDNY and the FDNY Foundation will distribute and install thousands of free smoke alarms.

New York City residents must submit their installation request online.
