Non-Production Chemical Laboratory Unit Permit 

Permit Description 

A permit is required to store, handle or use the following hazardous materials in a laboratory unit in quantities exceeding:
 
(a) 1 gallon of flammable liquid or;
(b) 1 gallon of combustible liquid or;
(c) 75 SCF of flammable gas. 

Cost of Permit

For Original (Initial) Permits (per laboratory unit) 

  • $210 for labs up to and including 2,500 square feet in area 
  • $315 for labs exceeding 2,500 square feet in area  

For Renewal Permits (per laboratory unit) 

  • $105 for labs up to and including 2,500 square feet in area 
  • $210 for labs exceeding 2,500 square feet in area 

Permit Length 

  • One Year  

Application Requirements 

  • Submission of Building Department approved documents.

  • Certificates of Fitness
    C14 -Supervision of Liquefied Natural Gas Plants
    D14 - Supervise the Handling and Use of Chemicals in NYC K-12 School Labs (if a DOE 
             Teacher)
    D15 - Supervise the Storage and Handling of Chemicals in the NYC K-12 School Labs (If 
             DOE Lab Specialist)
