A principal of a company that installs, inspects, tests and services Gaseous Fire Extinguishing Systems in New York City must hold an S-61 Certificate of Fitness.

This Certificate of Fitness is valid only for the specific person to whom it is issued and can be used anywhere within New York City.

  • New Application Fees: $5
  • Renewal Fees: $15
  • Renewal Cycle: 3 Years

Before You Submit Your Application

You must submit an Alternate Issuance Procedure (AIP) application to obtain the S-61 Certificate of Fitness. Qualified applicants should review and complete the S-61 Alternative Issuance Procedure Application Form (PDF)

Gaseous Fire Extinguishing System Company (S-61 COF Holder) List

Update the List or the S-61 COF card

The list can be updated on FDNY business. To change any information on the list or the S-61 COF card, the S-61 COF holder must follow the instruction below to request an update.

The following documents must be uploaded to make the update request on FDNY Business:

  • S-61 AIP Form (PDF)
  • Copy of a valid DOB Master Fire Suppression Contractor (Type A or C) License.

Special Renewal Requirements

The S-61 COF holder must upload the following documents to renew the S-61 COF:

  • S-61 AIP Form (PDF)
  • Copy of a valid DOB Master Fire Suppression Contractor (Type A or C) License.
