FDNY Medal Day Books

The FDNY Medal Day Book is published annually to honor the extraordinary courage, dedication and compassion demonstrated by members of the FDNY in the line of duty. Each year, the publication highlights firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and officers whose actions exemplify the Department's core mission of protecting life and property in New York City.

Through detailed accounts of live-saving rescues, complex emergency operations and acts of selfless service, the Medal Day Book preserves the stories behind the Department's highest honors.

FDNY Medal Day is one of the Department's most time-honored traditions, dating back to 1869. In 2008, Fire and EMS Medal Day Books were merged into one joint publication. For more than 150 years, the ceremony has recognized members who went above and beyond the call of duty, often in life-threatening circumstances. The Medal Day Book serves as a lasting record of these achievements documenting the bravery and professionalism that define the FDNY.
