NYC Drug and Alcohol Data

Overdose Death

The NYC Health Department links data from the Bureau of Vital Statistics and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in order to identify and explore deaths from overdose in NYC.

Each year, we release an Epi Data Brief summarizing the most recently available annual drug overdose death data.

The Health Department also releases reports summarizing quarterly provisional overdose deaths.

Drug Checking

The NYC Health Department operates drug checking services at 6 syringe service programs across NYC. People who use drugs can bring drug samples for analysis and receive results and tailored harm reduction education in real time. Each quarter, the Health Department releases a summary of drug checking findings to help monitor the NYC drug supply and provide information to organizations working with people who use drugs.
