Submit a Project

We love showcasing work that uses Open Data. Projects can be featured in our Project Gallery and sometimes as featured content on the dataset about page as well!

The best projects meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Does the project improve upon a user's ability to understand a specific open dataset?
• Does the project help New Yorkers answer a question or solve a problem using NYC Open Data?
• Does the project feature compelling and user-friendly visuals and design?
• Does the project engage with an NYC Open Data using a novel format or perspective?
• Does the project provide an instructional overview, share code, or explain design choices of the analytics work behind it?

A submission does not need to meet every criteria in order to be considered for publication, but all projects must use NYC Open Data. To understand our assessment process more, check out our rubric. 

Are you an instructor who uses Open Data in your assignments? Or have you created some sort of tutorial or educational resource? We welcome these submissions, and suggest keeping these additional criteria in mind:

• Who is the target audience for the tutorial?
• What specific skill(s) is the project supposed to teach a user?
• Are all of the tools used in the lesson freely available?

1. Review our official rules

   You will need to agree to these rules to submit your project

2. Submit your project for consideration

   The form requires you to list each of the datasets from Open Data that you used

3. The Open Data Team reviews submissions using the criteria above

   We aim to review projects on a quarterly basis in February, May, August, and November. If more than six months have passed and you haven't heard from us please contact us.

4. The Open Data Team notifies you of our decision via the email you provided in your application
