Dear Emergency Housing Voucher Participant:
We are writing to share an important update about the Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV)
program with you. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
announced that it will stop funding the EHV program for all Housing Authorities much
earlier than expected. Unfortunately, this means EHV program funding will run out by late
2026 and NYCHA will no longer be able to provide EHV subsidy payments for your
apartment. NYCHA is also unable to offer you a regular Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher
as it originally planned to do because the program does not have enough funding.
NYCHA is working to find alternative subsidized housing options for NYCHA EHV
participants. In the coming weeks, NYCHA will reach out to you by mail and email to let you know the next steps you need to take so that NYCHA can help to find other possible
subsidized housing options for you. Please be on the lookout for future correspondence
from NYCHA, which will be sent by US Postal mail and email, in the coming weeks.
To ensure you receive this important communication, please make sure your contact
information in the Self-Service Portal—including mailing and email addresses—is up to date.
To remain eligible for the EHV program for the rest of this year, please be sure to submit
your annual recertification on time and please allow your apartment to be inspected. Also,
if your household composition or household income has changed, you must submit an
interim recertification in the Self-Service Portal.
NYCHA will reach out directly to your landlord to inform them of this important EHV
program update.
If you have any questions, please contact the Customer Contact Center at (718) 707-7771,
Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8AM and 5PM.
Thank you,
New York City Housing Authority
