Doc NYC Panel

DOCNYC Screening & Panel Discussion

11/18/2015, IFC Center

MOME in partnership with DOC NYC, the largest documentary film festival in the country, hosted middle school students from the Soundview Academy for Culture and Scholarship at a screening of SKY LINE, the first documentary to explore the current race by entrepreneurs to build a “space elevator.”

Director Jonny Leahan spoke with the students after the film about the "Space Elevator" project chronicled in the film as well as his filmmaking process.  The film premiered earlier this week at the DOC NYC Festival and in this encore screening, DOC NYC and MOME invited film students from one of few middle schools in NYC with media studies curriculum.

Soundview Film Teacher Joseph Midyett, Coordinator Hope Brown, Diana Ramirez and Michele Curiale accompanied the students to the screening and were pleased that their students had this opportunity to see a documentary about science, space, the future, possibility, trial, and perseverance. The film students asked the director questions about how he developed the idea for this documentary, the animation used in the film, the music, and how he found the right team to make the film a reality.
