Executive Litigation and Policy Group

What Experienced Attorneys Do

The Executive Litigation and Policy Group manages high-salience litigation in state and federal court to protect New York City’s interests, conducts research to provide actionable guidance for the Law Department’s leadership team, and counsels on federal issues with significant revenue or programmatic implications for the City of New York. In so doing, the unit partners with other divisions at the Law Department and New York City’s agencies as well as external stakeholders. Its litigation matters span areas such as administrative, constitutional, and municipal law. The unit’s counseling work focuses on federal grants and emerging regulatory and enforcement areas of law, which may include coordination across multiple city entities, preparing briefing materials and presentations, maintaining reports and information trackers, and drafting internal guidance documents.

Ideal candidates should be creative problem-solvers, with a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under tight time constraints. They will possess excellent organizational, legal writing and analysis skills, as well as the ability to synthesize and communicate legal positions to clients and others effectively in both litigation and non-litigation contexts. To that end, applicants who have a minimum of three (3) years of post-graduate legal experience, with a focus on litigation or internal investigations, are preferred. Candidates must be admitted in good standing in New York State and should be admitted or eligible for immediate admission to the SDNY and EDNY. Previous government experience is a plus.
