Senior Repair Crew Chief

HPD is recruiting qualified individuals for the Senior Repair Crew Chief position, in the Office of Enforcement and Neighborhood Services. Under general supervision, the incumbent position supervises repair crews, makes difficult repairs for the improvement of housing conditions through the Emergency Repair Program, provides training in repair and rehabilitation skills, and performs related work.

Examples of Typical Tasks

  • Supervises one or more work crews in the repair or rehabilitation of more complex and difficult housing conditions
  • Obtains necessary supplies from local vendors or Agency warehouse and transporting supplies and tools to the assigned work sites
  • Prepares written reports of inspections and/or entering related data into the computer systems
  • May train other staff in more advanced repair techniques
  • Assists in surveying buildings to determine necessary work
  • Helps to prepare estimates and job specifications
  • May be responsible for specific operational functions of the workshop, such as inventory control, purchasing, and dispatching of crews

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Five years of satisfactory full-time experience in building construction, renovating, or repair in one or more of the followings fields: electrical, plumbing, plastering, carpentry, painting, roofing, glazing, or heating, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; or a satisfactory equivalent.
  • At least two years supervisory experience in building construction, renovating, or repair.
  • Education in an accredited college or university or in a relevant training program will be accepted to meet the non-supervisory experience requirement on a month-for-month basis up to a maximum of two years. Part-time experience will be accepted on a pro-rated basis.

Benefits

  • Beginning salary is $49,290; increases to $56,684 after two years.
