On December 30, 2024, HPD announced the designation of 539 Jersey Street to a development team consisting of Volunteers of America - Greater New York, Spatial Equity Co., and Nehemiah HDFC. The development team will transform the site into a mixed-use affordable housing campus with a grocery store, community services, and green open space.
The project is expected to produce approximately 232 new affordable homes across a senior building, a multifamily rental building, and a homeownership building. 60 of the affordable homes, split between the senior and multifamily buildings, will be supportive housing units reserved for families coming from the shelter system.
