The Affordable Scoop: A Monthly Guide to Permanently Affordable Homes Across the City

June 9, 2025

This month’s roundup features deeply affordable apartments for older New Yorkers, families, and individuals—with rents that meet New Yorkers where they are

NEW YORK, NY — As market-rate rents hit record highs and competition for housing intensifies, many New Yorkers are struggling to find a place to call home that they can afford. Whether trying to stay rooted in the neighborhood they love or looking for a fresh start somewhere new, the path to stable housing can feel out of reach for so many. That is why the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) is continuing with The Affordable Scoop, a monthly roundup of deeply affordable apartments currently available on NYC Housing Connect.

In 2024, HPD helped more New Yorkers move into affordable housing than ever before, connecting 10,054 households to homes through more than 300 advertised lotteries. The Affordable Scoop builds on that momentum, making it even easier for New Yorkers to see what’s available, where it’s located, and who’s eligible. Each month, HPD will spotlight deeply affordable homes with key details on rent levels, income bands, and how to apply—so more New Yorkers can find a place to call home.
