With the start of the school year right around the corner, the need for school supplies becomes increasingly urgent. The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City supports a host of programs to ensure every NYC-student has the materials and support they need to succeed each school year. As temperatures and UV levels rise, the Department of Homeless Services’, under the Department of Social Services, outreach teams and clinicians continue their tireless efforts—canvassing all five boroughs 24/7, 365 days a year. As part of this critical outreach, providing sunscreen to New Yorkers and their families experiencing unsheltered homelessness is an essential step in protecting them from harmful sun exposure. The City's Family Justice Centers serve victims of domestic violence and their families and provide the help they need to begin to rebuild their lives. Baby products, maternity clothes and toiletries are always in demand.
The Family Justice Centers also accept non-perishable food items for their clients. Appropriate food items - such as canned goods, macaroni & cheese, peanut butter, or crackers - are often in high demand at the Centers.

The Mayor’s Fund supports a host of special events for our agencies and partners throughout the year. In-kind donations of space, catering, audio/visual equipment, and contributions of small items that can be shared with attendees help agencies create meaningful events for New Yorkers across the five boroughs.

Materials for the Arts distributes donated new and reusable furniture and equipment to public schools and organizations throughout the five boroughs. Most wanted items include: chairs, especially office chairs; computers (no more than four years old) and related items including scanners, printers, and fax machines; projectors, screens and video equipment. Other in demand household items include irons, dishes, silverware, vases, lamps, wallpaper and decorating supplies, and miscellaneous items such as ladders and telephones.
Additionally, arts supplies are in high demand as well. Items like paper, posterboard, and frames are especially needed.
