June 15, 2018 — 15,000 smoke alarms to be distributed in all five boroughs
On Saturday, June 16th and Sunday, June 17th the FDNY will host its 4th annual citywide Open House program. 250 Firehouses and EMS Stations will open their doors to the public from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro and First Deputy Commissioner Laura Kavanagh will be attending an Open House event at Engine Company 307 and Ladder Company 154 at 81-17 Northern Boulevard, Queens at 11 a.m.
“Last year, we welcomed more than 15,000 New Yorkers to our firehouses and EMS Stations across the city,” said Fire Commissioner Nigro. “Once again, we look forward to connecting Firefighters, EMTs, and Paramedics to the communities they bravely serve and providing New Yorkers critical fire and life safety tips, as well as life-long career opportunities with the Department.”
FDNY members will also be giving away more than 150,000 items including smoke alarms, fire safety literature, fire safety coloring books, and fire helmets for children – generously donated by the FDNY Foundation to raise awareness of fire safety and prevention.
Open House locations are listed on FDNY’s interactive map. Throughout the celebration, all FDNY units will remain on call to respond to fires and medical emergencies. Firefighters, EMTs, and Paramedics will be educating the public about fire and life safety, conducting demonstrations, discussing careers within the Department, and offering tours of FDNY Engines, Ladder Trucks and Ambulances.
