FDNY Holds 18th Annual Blessing of the Marine Fleet at South Street Seaport

FDNY will host the 18th Blessing of its Marine Fleet on Monday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at South Street Seaport – Pier 16, Manhattan. This maritime tradition is meant to ensure safe travels and will include a procession of fireboats along the East River led by Fireboat Three Forty Three of Marine Company 1, – FDNY’s largest fireboat, followed by a colored water display.

“FDNY Marine Operations is equipped with a state-of-the-art fleet of fireboats to rapidly respond to fires, water rescues, and the management of large-scale events or disasters,” said Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro. “Our members in Marine Operations work closely with the United States Coast Guard and the NYPD to protect our waterways, and are true asset to the entire region.”

The FDNY Marine operation encompasses 28 vessels which are stationed throughout the five boroughs.
