FDNY & NYPD Hosts Annual Blessing of Marine Fleets

FDNY in partnership with the NYPD will host the annual blessing of its marine units on Thursday, May 31st at 11:30 a.m. at South Street Seaport – Pier 16, Manhattan.  This maritime tradition is meant to ensure safe travels and will include a procession of fireboats along the East River led by Fireboat Three Forty Three of Marine Company 1, followed by a red, white and blue water display. NYPD vessels will also participate in the marine procession.

“FDNY Marine Operations plays a critical role in keeping New Yorkers and visitors safe on the waterways of our city year round,” said Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro. “Our fleet of ships has the capacity to fight large fires on sea and along the coastline of the five boroughs, as well as rescue distressed patients and provide mutual aid to communities surrounding New York City. It’s a tremendous asset and an integral part of the FDNY’s life-saving mission.”
