On Thursday, May 24th, FDNY hosted its 18th annual EMS Competition at FDNY headquarters in Brooklyn during National EMS Week 2018.

The competition is an opportunity for FDNY EMTs and Paramedics to display their emergency medical service skills and knowledge in a mass casualty incident. This year's scenario involved a carnival presenting numerous patients with critical injuries and bystanders in distress. Patient scenarios included a pediatric patient with traumatic injuries, a carnival worker affected by his diabetic condition, and a food truck operator with carbon monoxide poisoning.

Division 2, Station 14 EMTs Jerry Granillo, Luis Martinez-Gutierrez, and Roy Zuniga was awarded second place, and Division 1, Station 8 EMTs Matti Kantelinen, Tomas Lopez, and Nicole Rizzi achieved third place.

For Advanced Life Support (ALS), first place went to Division 4, Station 54, Paramedics Luke Hill, Giovanni Reggler and Ariel Rivera. Second place was achieved by Haz-Tac Batallion, Deputy Chief Paul Miano, Captain Patrick Flynn, and Lieutenant Jordan Lucks. Third place was awarded to Division 2, Station 20, Paramedics Jessy Garcia, Chante Kelly, and Jonathan Rivera.
