FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker to Declare 2025 "Fire Prevention Year" in Honor of 100th Anniversary of National Fire Prevention Week

March 12, 2025

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) Commissioner Robert S. Tucker will declare 2025 as "Fire Prevention Year," on Thursday, March 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Engine 230, 701 Park Ave, Brooklyn. The event can be viewed live on the Department's website at www.nyc.gov/FDNY or HERE.

The FDNY has identified more than 600 tax blocks that pose an above average risk for fires. Using a risk-based assessment model, the FDNY has selected 100 blocks from the group to concentrate fire prevention efforts. This targeted outreached will be in addition to the thousands of public education events the FDNY's Fire Safety Education units conduct each year.

The Department has also calculated Community Risk Assessments for all 59 Community Boards, which will provide a detailed analysis of each neighborhood's emergency preparedness and vulnerability to fire incidents.

Following the event, the FDNY's Fire Safety Education Unit and FDNY Cadets will commence a targeted outreach plan to educate residents on the importance of having a working smoke alarm and to discuss fire safety tips.
