On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore welcomed the families of FDNY members to the 2026 FDNY World Trade Center Memorial Service at FerryHawk Stadium on Staten Island.

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, Mayor Zohran Mamdani joined Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore, Chief of Department John Esposito, and FDNY families to add the names of 36 members to the FDNY World Trade Center Memorial Wall. The members died after battling illnesses related to their work in the rescue and recovery efforts following the September 11th terrorist attacks.

The FDNY and FDNY Foundation released the official trailer for “Remembering Judge” on August 27, 2026. The new film shares the story and legacy of FDNY Chaplain Father Mychal Judge, the first officially recorded victim of the September 11th terrorist attacks, designated as Victim 0001.

The new film examines the ongoing health impacts experienced by FDNY members who took part in the rescue and recovery efforts at the World Trade Center, and the toll September 11th continues to take on the Department 25 years later.

To help commemorate 25 years since September 11th, the FDNY Foundation, the official nonprofit organization of the Department, is holding a special fundraiser to show its continued support of FDNY members.
