FOIL Requests

Notice of Public Availability and Access to Records

New York State's Freedom of Information Law (Public Officers Law §§84-90), commonly known as FOIL, allows members of the public to access records maintained by governmental agencies.  A FOIL request to the Equal Employment Practices Commission (EEPC) can only seek records maintained by the EEPC. If you are seeking records maintained by other City agencies, entities, or elected officials, please make a FOIL request to them directly.

All FOIL requests to the EEPC should be submitted via NYC OpenRecords at nyc.gov/openrecords.  Select Request a Record and the Equal Employment Practices Commission (EEPC) from the agency dropdown menu. 

Please specifically describe the records being requested to assist us in locating relevant records that are responsive to your request.  Your request should include the following:

• Name, title, or subject matter of the document
• Type of document
• The dates for which you are requesting documents
• Any other relevant information to help identify the documents

In addition to the specific records requested, please include your name, address, phone number, and email address so that we may properly respond to your request.

If you are unable to submit a request using OpenRecords, you can submit your request via email or mail.

Records are generally available within 20 business days. If it will take longer to respond, you will be notified in writing.

FOIL Appeals

State Law exempts certain records from disclosure. The Records Access Officer may deny your request, in whole, or in part, if it falls under these exemptions. If you disagree with the Records Access Officer's denial of your request, you may appeal within thirty (30) days by email or mail.
