DSNY Fee-Based Collection Service for Professionals

Professionals such as physicians, accountants, lawyers, or other licensed professionals operating in residential buildings may qualify to have us collect their trash and recyclables.

An annual fee will be charged based on the amount of waste collected weekly.

Professional enrolled in this service are required follow residential recycling and setout rules.

We do not collect regulated medical, laboratory, or surgical waste. Professionals must contract with a private hauler for collection and disposal and be able to provide documentation to DSNY for proof of contract.

To qualify, New York Licensed professionals must have offices in houses or apartment buildings currently receiving DSNY service and you meet one of the following criteria:

• You are authorized by law to operate a business in a residential location that also serves as your home.
• You or your group are licensed NYS physicians, dentists, accountants, lawyers, chiropractors, or other licensed professions with a practice located in a basement or on the first or second floor of a residential building.
• You are engaged in a profession located in a residential portion of the building that has been used for the same occupational purpose since December 15, 1961.
  

Fee Structure

The non-refundable annual fee varies according to the average number of 20-gallon bags of solid waste (including recyclables) produced per week.

Reminder: All bags containing trash must be set out in bins with secure lids as of March 1, 2024.

The fee schedule (including 8.875% state sales tax) is:

• 1 to 5 bags per week: $329.89 per year
• 6 to 10 bags per week: $612.97 per year
  
• 11 to 15 bags per week: $896.04 per year
• 16 to 20 bags per week: $1,179.12 per year
