PlaySure Network for HIV Prevention

In 2016, clinical and non-clinical providers in NYC partnered to create the PlaySure Network for HIV prevention. Medical clinics and front-line community partners work together in the network to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to services, such as HIV testing, HIV treatment, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP). These services are the pillars of the State’s and City’s plan to End the Epidemic (EtE).

Goals

PlaySure Network members work collaboratively to:

  • Promote patient-specific approaches to sexual health and HIV prevention.
  • Increase access to PrEP and PEP for people (especially those without insurance) who may be exposed to HIV — including gay and bisexual men, transgender people, and people who have a partner living with HIV.
  • Link people who test positive for HIV, or those who are HIV-positive and out of care, to HIV care services so they can get treated and become virally suppressed.

Partners

The PlaySure Network is comprised of NYC-supported HIV testing sites, community-based organizations (CBOs), and clinics that offer PrEP and PEP.

NYC PEP Hotline

Patients can call the NYC PEP Hotline at (844) 3-PEPNYC (844-373-7692) 24/7 for help getting started on PEP right away. Operators will connect patients with a clinic that has expertise in providing PEP. For after-hour calls, the hotline can help patients get a PEP starter pack through a pharmacy and connect them with a clinic for the remainder of their PEP regimen.

Web Portals

  • New York Knows/PlaySure Directory is an internal online resource directory tool to promote interagency collaboration and facilitate linkages to prevention and care, as well as to social services.
  • Basecamp is an online information-sharing platform for NYC providers who are developing or implementing PrEP programs.
  • PrEP/PEP Providers on the NYC Health Map is an online resource for New Yorkers to locate experienced PrEP and PEP providers in the city.
