Asthma: Information for Providers
Asthma affects more than 400,000 New Yorkers, including 142,000 children ages 1 to 13. Asthma is a leading cause of inpatient hospital stays and emergency department visits for children in NYC.
The following Department of Health programs can help you help your asthma patients:
- The Office of School Health provides various services for children in school, including medicine administration and education.
- The Healthy Neighborhoods Program conducts free home assessments for asthma patients to help identify environmental asthma triggers and other local hazards.
- The East Harlem Neighborhood Health Action Center offers free counseling, education and other support services for children with asthma.
- The Tremont Neighborhood Health Action Center offers cost-free pest control services for eligible families.
- In partnership with CABS Health Network, Doctors for Asthma Integrated Pest Management provides integrated pest management services to children up to 21 years old diagnosed with asthma that meet eligibility requirements.
