Commissioner Louis A. Molina Cuts Ribbon on New Scholarship Unit at Department of Correction Academy
Commissioner Louis A. Molina will cut the ribbon today, Thursday, May 25th at 1 p.m. on the Department’s new Scholarship Unit, located at the Department of Correction Academy at 66-26 Metropolitan Avenue in Queens.
“Education and training are critical to improving our Department and supporting all of our Officers and civilian staff,” said Commissioner Molina. “The new Scholarship Unit will not only provide our employees with a gateway to educational opportunities, it will help them navigate the process – including obtaining financial support for themselves and their families. This important new endeavor is how we will continue to improve our Department together.”
Under the direction of the Department’s Training and Development division, the new Scholarship Unit will serve as a resource hub for all staff to visit and obtain information about tuition reduction programs, scholarships, and continuing education opportunities. The unit will also assist staff with navigating through the process of applying for financial aid and assistance for themselves and their family members. In addition, this unit will serve as a bridge to connect uniform and non-uniform DOC employees with information about the academic and professional development opportunities available to them.
Initial partners with the Scholarship Unit include the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Monroe College, Excelsior University, Champlain University, Columbia Southern University, and the University of New Haven.
