NYC Department of Correction Notification of a Death



Statement from NYC Correction Commissioner Stanley Richards:

“The Department mourns the loss of an individual who passed away in our care. The safety, support, and well-being of every person entrusted to us are of the highest importance. This loss weighs heavily on all of us and our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.”

Background from the NYC Department of Correction:

John Price, 49, passed away while receiving medical care at Elmhurst Hospital.
Prior to his admission to Elmhurst, Mr. Price had most recently resided at the Eric M. Taylor Center on Rikers Island. On March 28, he required medical attention and was transported that same day to the hospital at approximately 5:40 p.m.

He was pronounced deceased at 5:37 a.m. on March 29.

The Department has notified the federal monitor, the Board of Correction, the State Attorney General’s Office, the City Department of Investigation, the State Commission of Correction, the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, and the Bronx and Queens District Attorneys.
